The Artist Behind the Work

Art, for me, has always been a conversation with the unseen— those fleeting moments of beauty that pass unnoticed by most.

Where It Began

I grew up in a small coastal town where the light was always changing. Mornings brought soft, diffused golds that painted everything in warmth, while evenings dissolved into deep purples and oranges that seemed to set the ocean on fire.

Those early years spent watching the interplay of light and water became the foundation of everything I create today. I learned that nothing is ever truly static—that even the most ordinary moment holds extraordinary beauty if you're willing to see it.

My grandmother was the first to put a brush in my hand. She painted too—mostly small watercolors of flowers from her garden. She never considered herself an artist, but she understood something essential: that creating was a way of paying attention, of honoring the world.

The Creative Process

Every piece begins with observation. I spend hours—sometimes days— simply looking. Watching how light falls across a surface, how shadows pool in corners, how colors shift as the day progresses. This period of watching is as much a part of my practice as the painting itself.

When I finally approach the canvas, I work intuitively. I've learned to trust the process, to let go of the need for control. The most meaningful work often emerges from happy accidents, from moments when the paint seems to have its own intentions.

I work primarily in oils, though I've increasingly incorporated mixed media elements—fragments of paper, textiles, found materials. These additions bring a tactile quality that feels honest, grounded in the physical world even as the imagery reaches toward something more abstract.

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see."
— Edgar Degas

Looking Forward

As I continue this journey, I find myself drawn to increasingly subtle explorations. The work becomes quieter, more intimate— less about dramatic gestures and more about the whisper between moments.

I believe art has the power to slow us down, to create pockets of stillness in our hurried lives. That's what I hope to offer through my work: an invitation to pause, to breathe, to notice the beauty that surrounds us even in the most ordinary circumstances.

Whether you're here to explore the gallery, considering a piece for your collection, or simply curious about the work—thank you for taking the time. Art thrives in connection, and every viewer brings their own story to the experience.
